Hello! my name is Kadija Conteh-Barrat, I am the practice owner of Barrat Behavioral Health and Primary Care LLC. I am a dual-licensed NP with a doctorate degree in nursing (DNP). I am a board-certified family nurse practitioner (FNP) and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). I have over 9 years of experience in a variety of areas primary care and diverse psychiatric and mental health care mood disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, substance use disorders, grief, and adjustment disorders. I help individuals struggling with mental health become the best version of themselves.
My aim is to cultivate a therapeutic relationship you can trust. This aim comes from a place of genuine interest to understand your true self, what you are looking for, and how to work together. Through many years of experience, I have been able to partner with people of all ages who seek help with diverse psychiatric problems.
As a board-certified PMHNP, Kadija believes in using a holistic, biopsychosocial, and collaborative approach to meet the behavioral health needs of her clients.
In your first session, we’ll explore reasons for seeking care and then decide the most appropriate ways to help you make progress. We’ll look at how your thoughts affect your emotions and experience. During treatment, we’ll help you learn how to push back against those thoughts to change your feelings for the better.

Their experiences as a refugee profoundly influenced their desire to help others, particularly those who have endured similar hardships. After resettling, Kadija pursued a career in nursing, driven by a passion for healing and a unique understanding of trauma and resilience. They earned their credentials as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, specializing in the treatment of trauma-related disorders, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Kadija’s personal history gives them a profound empathy and insight into the challenges faced by their patients, many of whom are refugees, immigrants, or survivors of severe trauma. In their practice, Kadija is known for a compassionate approach, integrating evidence-based treatment with a deep respect for the cultural and individual experiences of their patients. Their story is one of survival, resilience, and a dedicated pursuit of healing, both for themselves and those they serve.
